What is Leadership Barrow?

The Leadership Barrow Program is one of many leadership organizations established throughout Georgia and the United States. This educational program encourages and fosters the development of community leaders and volunteers by utilizing an interactive study program that inspires leadership.

Broadening the leadership base of our community requires ongoing leadership development programs to prepare new leaders and to strengthen existing ones. The Leadership Barrow Program enables Barrow County citizens to reach their full leadership potential and assists them in recognizing their responsibility as community and organizational leaders. It prepares leaders to identify, address and meet current and future challenges.

The purpose of the program is to create a network of emerging leaders through an educational experience that increases the participants’ understanding of local institutions and community groups and the attributes required to sustain them. Additionally, ongoing leadership development is provided for the Alumni.

By participating in LB, future leaders are more actively involved in community life and therefore better prepared to lead Barrow County to a brighter future.

Your Time Commitment:

This program consists of a one-day retreat, nine one-day sessions, a class project and  graduation. The LB Program extends over a ten month period (August through May) with graduation to be held in June each participant must make a commitment to attend all events and sessions. A strict attendance policy is enforced.

Endorsements:

Michelle Gilreath – The Leadership Barrow opportunity has thus far been an invaluable experience and as we go through this year and bring our community service projects to fruition I believe that the Leadership Barrow Class of 2014 will make a positive influence on Barrow County.  I encourage existing and emerging leaders to make the commitment: your life will be  greatly enriched along with our community and your business

Frank Janney Jr.: The class provided a great learning opportunity for me to better understand the needs and activity in our local community. It was also allowed me to meet and network with other area leaders.  The classes and activities were well thought out and planned.  This is a great opportunity to better understand how I can make a difference for our local community

As part of the program objectives, participants will explore, examine and discuss issues related to the Barrow County community. Each class limits participants from common industries in order to establish a diverse group.

Class members will undergo leadership training and will interact with each other, LB Alumni and community leaders in team building presentations. Listed below are some of the topics and assignments that are a part of the 10 month curriculum:

A Weekday Retreat, History of Barrow County, Education/Barrow County School System, Non-Profits and their Role in the Community, Business & Leadership, State Legislature, Local Government, Public Services, Environment, Class Community Service Project, and Graduation.

Participants are charged tuition to defray the cost of guest speakers, transportation, meals, retreat and graduation expenses along with administrative costs. Cost for the entire  program is $600.00.

Each participant is responsible for paying his/her own tuition and for making arrangements for tuition to be paid by his/her employer or sponsoring organization. A Limited amount of Scholarships are  available.

What Happens After Graduation?

Leadership Barrow is a membership organization dependent on its members who have completed the program to participate in the planning and implementation of future programs. It is expected that graduates would become active dues paying members with an ongoing commitment to the development of new leadership in Barrow County. Dues for the Alumni Program are $25.00 per year.  This money will be used to help defray the cost of the alumni social and a ticket for you to attend the graduation in June.

In order to ensure the future growth and development of community leaders, alumni must remain active, educated and involved. The spirit of service continues far beyond graduation with alumni actively involved in local community and civic organizations. Graduates are encouraged to take their increased knowledge and awareness of Barrow County’s institutions and familiarity with its leaders into all areas of their community life.
